"Returning your body to it's Natural State of Perfect Health"
Spring clean for your health
Spring is in the air. This is a time to renew, refresh, and plan for a healthy growing season. It's a time to shake off the dormant feelings associated with being stuck indoors over the long, dark, cold days of winter. Too few of us know that lighting, color, size, temperature and organization of our immediate surrounding affect every aspect of ourselves. The spaces that we work and live in can affect our health, our moods, our attitudes, our productivity and even our relationships. Spring-cleaning is a way to reset the health of the surrounding to ensure us a healthy season ahead. Consider a holistic approach this year.
Choose a weekend that you can clean your home thoroughly. This means clean out all unwanted clutter. Get rid of items that no longer serve you. Clean away dust and dirt from baseboards, floors, book shelves. Clean out closets, dressers, drawers and other area where forgotten baggage is stored. Remember that LESS IS MORE: clutter prevents movement in your space and weighs you down. Pay special attention to doors and windows. This is the area we breathe from. Old stale air is let out to let in clean fresh air. Clean the glass, blinds and curtains. When complete, spray the window seals with diluted Rosemary oil, or use fresh rosemary.
Wash all bed linens from the previous season and put them away as their job is finished for the year. Wash all linens to be used this season and rinse in Lavender water as sleeping is a sacred act. Prepare the bedroom for this purpose; set the intention that sleep is a healing state. Remove TV's, work, and other non-resting activities from this room. Add potted plants and they will restore health as you sleep.
Review the pantry. Throw away foods that are seldom used and whose nutrients are dead and not meant to nourish the body. Clean out the refrigerator of old forgotten items to celebrate the change in seasons. Create space in the kitchen for the coming fresh fruits and vegetables. Plant a small herb garden in the kitchen as many of these tasty plants add important health benefits. Parsley is celebrated for its cancer fighting properties. Garlic is a world famous anti viral, anti fungal and anti bacterial herb. Rosemary, thyme, and oregano all offer health benefits as well as exceptional taste when grown fresh in your kitchen. Plant this mini kitchen garden so that the herbs will be ready when the vegetables become available.
Clean the bathrooms from top to bottom. Add plants, bath salts and oils appropriate for the season to prepare for the cleansing rituals. Relaxing baths remove much more than dirt that has collected on the skin. Warm baths stimulate the body to release toxins, emotions, and stress. Try to avoid rushed morning showers with toxic soaps, sprays, and other chemicals. Discard products that encourage stress or toxic living.
Consciously consider where your family spends the most time together. Consider painting this area to create the kind of atmosphere you would like. A light sage color or another healing color is the best choice. This sets the intention that this space is purposefully meant for your healing and relaxation. There are plenty of other places in the world to be stressed out. Add candles, plants and any other item you feel brings a positive mood into your space.
Add houseplants to your home to filter out toxins from the indoor air. Specifically, Aloe Vera to remove formaldehyde, a spider plant to remove carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide, English Ivy or Peace Lilies for removing benzene. The Peace Lilies can also remove trichloroethylene from indoor air,
Think of your home as your sacred space with separate compartments that allow you to nourish, cleanse, rest and heal yourself and family. Enjoy a wonderful spring.
